Monte Marina
Monte Marina

  • Fuerteventura’s first naturist resort
  • Fabulous climate - year-round sunshine
  • Comfortable self-catering apartments – half board available
  • ‘Nearly Naturist’ hotel option also available
  • Lush tropical gardens
  • 20 miles of clothes-optional beaches
  • Flights from a wide choice of UK airports

In colourful tropical gardens the family-run Monte Marina naturist apartment complex offers a good standard of accommodation in an enviable position above the clothes-optional beach.  A half board package is available at the neighbouring sister hotel – the Marina Playa and for a ‘nearly naturist’ option we can offer rooms in the hotel with the facilities of the naturist pool and clothes-optional beach just nearby.

Location

Monte Marina is located on the Jandia Peninsula in the southernmost part of the island in the quiet village of Esquinzo. There are a few other apartment complexes, three restaurants and a supermarket nearby. A half-hourly public bus service gives access to Playa de Jandia with its duty-free shops and Morro Jable with more traditional bars and restaurants. The steady trade winds temper the heat and make Fuerteventura a paradise for windsurfers.  Even in the winter, temperatures are in the 70’s.

The Beach

Monte Marina is built on the cliffs with 20 miles of sandy beach literally lying at its feet, about five minutes walk away. The width varies with the tides, and it is clothes-optional throughout. To the south, the Playa de Jandia is now overdeveloped and nudity is found only in a few clusters. To the north, the extensive Playa de Sotavento invites hours of nude walking on sand along romantic lagoons and the sea, which changes colour from blue and turquoise to almost white. In several places along the route are snack bars and sun loungers and umbrellas are for hire. Everywhere is safe for refreshing dips or longer swims in the sea.

Naturism at Monte Marina

Monte Marina apartments offer 24 hour nudity within the grounds. When leaving the apartments to go to the beach or to reception in the Hotel Marina Playa guests must cover up.

Facilities

The newly refurbished (in 2008) naturist seawater pool and whirlpool is set in lush tropical gardens and surrounded by sun loungers and umbrellas. There is direct access to the pool from the terraces of the apartments on the ground floor. Beach towels are provided (deposit required).
In Monte Marina itself, facilities are limited to the pool, poolside sauna  and  table tennis.
In the neighbouring hotel, under the same management, is the part-time reception, coffee bar, TV lounge, restaurant, lunchtime snack bar and a further (textile) seawater pool, heated and partly enclosed, with whirlpool, sunbathing terraces, small wellness centre and garden chess. We can make arrangements for half board with the neighbouring Restaurant Playa Marina – only if prebooked.

Food and Drink

Although the apartments are offered on a self catering basis, it is possible to take either breakfast or half board at the neighbouring Marina Playa hotel. This facility is only available if pre-booked and costs £56 per person per week for breakfast or £140 per person per week for half board. Both breakfast and evening meal are served buffet style and the evening meal is served fairly early at 18.30(the restaurant itself is open until much later for a la carte arrangements).

Ecology

Protection of the environment is a priority on this beautiful island and six beaches on Fuerteventura have been awarded Blue Flags, indicating a good quality of both beach and seawater. Sewage is treated efficiently, and the residual water is used in agriculture and to irrigate gardens etc. Domestic garbage is largely recycled. Fresh water is scarce; most tap water is desalinated. Solar energy is little used, as yet: however, wind farms cover 10% of all energy requirements.
